The Kansas State University School of Music, Theatre, and Dance invites applications for an Assistant Director of Choral Studies. This full-time, nine-month term, non-tenure track position is at the rank of Instructor or Teaching Assistant Professor and will start August 6, 2023 with a competitive salary commensurate with qualifications and experience. To be considered for the rank of Teaching Assistant Professor, the applicant must have a terminal degree in music or music education.
Primary duties are to serve as the Assistant Director of Choral Activities with responsibilities that include conducting Collegiate Chorale, teaching Aural Skills I and II, and conducting University Treble Chorus. The successful candidate will join the Director of Choral Studies and Director of Early Music Ensembles in all aspects of recruiting, fundraising, and various administrative duties within a large university choral program. Additional duties may be assigned such as serving on committees and participating in musical endeavors within our community. Research, scholarship, and creative activities are encouraged and supported by the school as means to stay current in the field and to build the reputation of the program. There will be potential opportunities to teach summer semester or intercession courses in music and/or music education for additional pay.
Minimum Qualifications:
Masters degree in music or music education with choral conducting or vocal emphasis
Successful public school or collegiate choral teaching experience
Preferred Qualifications:
Earned doctorate in choral conducting
Successful public school or collegiate choral conducting experience
Demonstrated success in recruiting
