Description
The Department of Music at the University of California, Irvine seeks applicants for the position of Choral Director beginning July 2022, to develop and lead two mixed-voice choirs.
The successful candidate will build one ensemble, Chamber Singers, focusing on music for a specialized ensemble populated mainly by music majors, and one larger ensemble, Concert Choir, focusing on repertoire from the “Masterworks” choral repertoire, including both music students and members of the greater university community.
The Director should demonstrate the ability to energize the university community to become engaged in a high level of choral singing, making it possible for the university to enjoy the benefits of a vibrant choral program. The successful candidate should also possess a demonstrated history of professional choir building, with a corresponding track-record of concert programs with a diverse repertoire.
Candidates must possess at minimum a Master's degree in Choral Conducting, and proficiency in teaching repertoire in multiple foreign languages.
Preferred qualifications include a corresponding doctorate and at least five years of proven choral leadership and teaching in related areas such as Voice, Musicianship, Theory, or Conducting at the university level. Greater consideration will be given to applications with proven skills in diverse choral exploration, Conducting, both choral and instrumental, and a proven willingness to engage in Urban Music and greater World Music.
