Description

The Department of Music in the College of Liberal Arts of Slippery Rock University of Pennsylvania invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track assistant professor position as Director of Choral Activities beginning August 2022. The successful candidate will be responsible for directing university choirs which may include University Concert Choir, Treble Choir, and the select Chamber Singers as well as for teaching choral music education courses. Additional courses will include either Music History or Music Theory courses and will be assigned based upon the strengths of the candidate. Consistent with the expectations of all SRU faculty, the selected candidate will be responsible for teaching courses in the candidate’s area of expertise, maintaining scholarly productivity, and demonstrating leadership/service at the department, college, and university levels, or beyond.

Minimum Qualifications

A doctorate in conducting or related field with choral emphasis required. ABD candidates must have the doctoral degree in hand by August 2022. The candidate must demonstrate successful experience teaching and engaging college students both in the classroom/studio and beyond. The candidate must demonstrate a developed choral pedagogy, strong skills in choral development, and a commitment to mentoring student development. The candidate’s demonstrated commitment to the education of diverse populations must be clear and vivid in the applicant’s materials. The candidate should possess a collaborative and collegial disposition and have a demonstrable commitment to equity, diversity, inclusion, belonging, and community outreach. Finalists must complete in an interview process, which includes a teaching demonstration and a conducting demonstration.
