Description
The School of Dance in the College of Fine Arts at the University of Utah invites applicants for a Career Line Open Rank Professor position to serve as Musical Director to begin July 1st 2022. The ideal candidate is a practicing accompanist who is able to demonstrate a developed aesthetic point in Ballet repertoire geared for class accompaniment, other genres and possibly able to compose. We seek candidates who are current leaders in the field, and who will actively contribute to the diversity of viewpoints, cultural backgrounds, experiences, worldviews and practices of the faculty and students in the School of Dance. We value the ability of this faculty member to teach, work, model and think interdisciplinarily in order to enhance possibilities across the School of Dance, the College of Fine Arts and the University at large.
The qualified candidate must: 1) hold a terminal degree or have commensurate professional experience in the field of music, music accompaniment, music production and/or music composition; 2) have at least three years of experience teaching at the university level and be able to teach music classes, at both the Ballet BFA and MFA levels; 3) show a mastery of the classical Ballet repertoire with a deep knowledge of other genres; 4) demonstrate a capacity to serve as a mentor and coordinator to all accompanists.
