Here at Random Opera, we have been so disappointed that our plans for 2020 had to be cast aside. Although we still face much uncertainty about when and how we could get back to performing infront of a live audience, we know that there are many like us out there who are desperate to have an opportunity to sing!

So we have come up with a plan, and we are delighted to be casting for a production of Don Pasquale in Rugby, Warwickshire, for April 2021.

The production will be in a covid-safe location, with social distancing in place and integrated into the staging. There will be no audience present – the performances will be filmed and made available online.

We will be performing the full opera, in Italian, with piano accompaniment.

Note that to minimise the risk to performers (and give the widest chance for people to be involved), we will make use of online rehearsals wherever possible. It should be noted that because of this, there will be an expectation that all performers will be able to learn their roles predominantly by themselves. Please take this into account when considering applying.

Although we are an amateur company, we do not ask our singers for any contribution or membership fees for performing with us. We exist without grants or sponsorship, and will have no ticket sales for this production, so will be unable to offer any travel or accommodation reimbursements. We are self-funding this production to give singers a much-needed opportunity to perform.

Norina – Soprano

Ernesto – Tenor

Malatesta – Baritone

Don Pasquale – Bass

If we have enough suitable auditionees, we will consider double or triple casting the opera, for later dates in 2021.

Auditions will not be in person. Instead, we ask that you send us a video of you performing an aria from Don Pasquale. This will be followed by a video interview with the director to discuss the character & motivation.
