Western Carolina University is accepting applications for an Assistant Professor in Musical Theatre.
Assistant Professor of Musical Theatre, 9 – month, tenure track position. Continued engagement in the profession through research and/or creative activities is expected. Duties will include teaching a four (4) course load each semester with course release for Musical Directing each semester. Courses taught may include song study, musicianship, ensembles, etc, dependent on the candidates area of expertise. Will work closely with the Musical Theatre Program Coordinator on season selection, casting, productions and curriculum development.
Minimum Qualifications
Masters degree in Theatre, Music, Musical Theatre, or closely related field, OR comparable/significant professional experience in Musical Theatre and/or teaching at the University level. Working professionals in the Musical Theatre with a national reputation may be considered with a bachelor’s level degree. Conducting, sight-reading and piano accompaniment skills. Teaching assignments include a sequential Musicianship I and II for musical theatre students, Song Study, and Ensembles. Production assignments include serving as Music Director for large spring musical and other standalone campus and departmental events as needed. This position works closely in the day-to-day operations of the department with other Stage and Screen faculty and the program director for musical Theatre.
Preferred ability to teach “acting the song”, experience with producing, supervising and coordinating musical theatre events, recruiting, working with budgets, voice instruction with expertise in vocal styles for musical theatre.
