Megan Barrera

Internationally recognized soprano Megan Barrera, a Cuban-Puerto Rican native of Miami, Florida, has emerged as a prominent figure in opera and concert repertoire. Her remarkable talent and dedication have secured victories in prestigious international vocal competitions, including the Gabriela Be?a?ková, Certamen Nuevas Voces Ciudad de Sevilla, Vissi D’arte, Saint Petersburg Opera Guild, and the Rochester International Vocal Competition.

Dr. Barrera's global career includes a notable debut at the Teatro de la Maestranza in Seville, Spain, performing in David McVicar's production of Verdi's "La traviata." She also made her mark at Divadlo J.K. Tyla Plzni in the Czech Republic as Micaëla in Bizet's "Carmen." Her artistry extends to recitals in Spain and a Music of the Americas tour, enchanting audiences in London, Lisbon, Panama, and various Brazilian cities with pianist Dr. João Paulo Casarotti.

Beyond her vocal prowess, Dr. Barrera is celebrated for revitalizing operatic productions with a fresh and contemporary perspective. Her academic journey includes a Doctor of Musical Arts (DMA) and a Master of Music (MM) from Louisiana State University, as well as a Bachelor of Music (BM) from the University of Miami, where she earned a full scholarship. Currently, as Assistant Professor of Voice and Opera at New World School of the Arts College in Miami, Florida, Dr. Barrera imparts her knowledge and passion, inspiring the next generation of vocal talents.
