Competition Final Rounds, Convention Classes, & the Expo

Competition Second Round

In order to receive a Second Round time, you need to first confirm your participation via your CSmusic.net account or by emailing katie@csmusic.net.

Saturday, May 25 – Sunday, May 26

  • All Divisions
  • No additional registration is needed for the Second Round.

***IMPORTANT DETAILS***

  • Only ONE song selection is required for the Second Round; you have approximately 6 minutes of performance time.
  • You can sing the same selection from the First Round or choose a new selection.
  • Original music is not required, but make sure the copied music you bring for the accompanist is in a three-ringed binder (no loose copies of music) in non-glare sheet protectors or taped edges (absolutely no staples).
  • You may bring your own accompanist or use the one provided, but there will be no time to practice with the accompanist beforehand.
  • Practice rooms will be available, but these rooms do not include pianos.

Other Details

  • Semiformal daytime audition attire is appropriate.
  • Approximately 600 singers participate in the Second Round:
    • 350 High School Divisions
    • 200 University Divisions
    • 150 Young Artist/Emerging Professional Divisions
  • Depending on the size of the division, approximately 14-40 singers will advance to the Semifinal Round from each division.
  • This is an open competition; parents, family, and others may sit in on the competition, space permitting.

 

Competition Semifinal Round

Monday, May 27

  • All Divisions
  • 9:30 am – 1:30 pm

Format and Details

  • Singers perform ONE song selection of their choice in its entirety.
  • Repertoire can be used from previous rounds.
  • Semiformal daytime audition attire is appropriate.
  • The top 5-10 singers in each division will advance to the Final Round.
  • Winners will be notified via email and a list will be posted near the Convention Registration Desk as soon as possible after the round is complete.
  • This is an open competition; parents, family, and others may sit in on the competition, space permitting.

Final Round and Awards

Monday, May 27, 3:00 – 7:00 pm

Room: Grand Ballroom
Approximate Start Times – The next division will start immediately after the previous division’s final singer.

3:00 – 3:40 pm    Musical Theatre – High School (8 singers)
3:45 – 4:05 pm    Musical Theatre – University/Pre-Professional (5 singers)
4:10 – 4:50 pm    Classical – High School (8 singers)
4:55 – 5:20 pm    Classical – University (5 singers)
5:25 – 6:00 pm    Classical – Young Artist/Emerging Professional (5 singers)

6:00 – 6:25 pm    Scholarship Awards and Group Sing from Appcompanist
6:30 pm               Announce First, Second, and Third Place in each division


Convention Classes

Every Competition participant receives a FREE Convention Attendee Pass that gets them into every Convention Class and event. No extra registration is needed.

Friday, May 24 – Monday, May 27

  • High School, University, and Emerging Professional Classes
  • Top faculty members from the participating Expo schools and Exhibitors will present more than 100 masterclasses and workshops.
  • No pre-registration necessary for the classes; attend as many as you want.
    • Classes are free to attend for competition participants.
    • To SING in a masterclass:
  • Topics include Professional Role Auditions, College Auditions, Repertoire Choices, Healthy Technique, Mental, Musical, and Vocal Preparation, Choosing the Right School, Business of Singing, and more.

College Recruiting Fair and Expo

Saturday, May 25 – Sunday, May 26
(Free for all Competition participants; no additional registration necessary.)

  • Meet with undergraduate and graduate representatives from premier vocal programs as you find the right school for you. Faculty and admission officers from more than 70 of the top schools in the nation will be at the Expo to help you find the school that fits you the best.
  • Who’s coming?
    • The Juilliard School, Eastman School of Music, New England Conservatory, Boston Conservatory, USC, San Francisco, BYU, Michigan, and dozens of others.
