Changing Your Habits

How long does it take to wake up to the fact that what we’re doing isn’t working?

I’m talking about how we all keep doing things the way we’re used to even when we’re clearly not getting the results we want.

We all have certain work habits that we take for granted and that actually undermine our intended results. Whether these are practice room habits, or the ways we handle networking, booking inquiries, or self-promotion.

Making real career change starts with an honest self-assessment.

  1. Where are you now in relation to your goals both short-term and long-term?
  2.

  3. What have you been doing to reach these goals?
  4.

  5. What’s working? (YAY!)
  6.

  7. What’s not working? Look at your results and any feedback you’re getting, to see what you might consider changing.

Note: If you are having difficulty attributing which actions are causing what results, this may be a good time to consider working with a coach, a trusted mentor, or a consultant. Someone who can give you an unvarnished appraisal.
  8.

  9. 5. Are you willing to take on new habits and approaches? And to stick with these even when they feel awkward or scary? Working with a coach or consultant often involves going outside your comfort zone. How committed are you?

Challenge for the week: notice your morning habits – how you use the first hour to set yourself up for the day. Notice your self-talk and how you organize a plan for the day. Then notice how the day progresses based on your morning habits. You may in the process identify new ways to get each day off to a great start.
