Letters to the Editor

Dear Editor: I would love it if you would consider including articles on the effect of cortisone shots/ methylpredinsolone on [the] long-term health of singers and how the industry can help singers not abuse their bodies. —Lisa Hopkins, Washington, D.C.

[Editor’s Note: Search under “cortisone” in the CS online archives at www.classicalsinger.com/magazine/archive.php for a host of related articles including “Cortisone and the Singer: Uses and Abuses” by Dr. Anthony Jahn from Feb. 2004.]

Dear Editor: I really enjoyed the article in the June 2007 issue on Spanish art song. It is heartwarming to see professionals like Castel and Babakhanian advocating for the genre with such passion. Readers may be surprised
to learn that there is a principal, best-selling collection of Spanish art song apparently overlooked in the article and readily available in the United States. The following collection contains songs by many of the composers on Babakhanian’s list of recommended repertoire: Anthology of Spanish Song (Hal Leonard, The Vocal Library). I have also had success finding Spanish art songs in composer editions from Boosey & Hawkes, Durand, Eschig, G. Schirmer, Ricordi, Salabert, and Schott, also not mentioned in the article. —Joel K. Boyd, via email

Dear Editor: I just wanted to thank you for your July article on “Anything but Opera.” I do like opera, but it was the highlight of the issue for me— so many good ideas. —M. Ryan Taylor
