Bio

Jerek Fernández, a tenor from San Juan, Puerto Rico, recently completed a two-year residency (2023–2025) as a Baumgartner Studio Artist with The Florentine Opera. During this time, he performed as Remendado in Carmen, Damon in Acis & Galatea, and Guglielmo in Viva la Mamma, while also covering the role of Goro in Madama Butterfly.

In the summer of 2024, he participated as a studio artist at Wolf Trap Opera, where he performed as Parpignol in La Bohème and covered the roles of Sprinks in Silent Night by Kevin Puts and the tenor soloist in Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9. He was also an Apprentice Artist at Sarasota Opera for their 2023 winter season, taking part in mainstage productions and other performances. He has also performed with the Zarzuela and Operetta Foundation of Puerto Rico in Noche de Zarzuela and with the Puerto Rico Symphony Orchestra in Reyando con la Sinfónica.

For the 2023–2024 season, Fernández was a studio artist with The Florentine Opera, portraying Clergy and covering Piquillo in Offenbach’s Songbird. Additionally, he covered Nemorino in L’elisir d’amore and Duende in María de Buenos Aires, and performed Don Ottavio in Don Giovanni and Basilio in Le Nozze di Figaro with The Florentine Opera’s Summer Ensemble.

In the summer of 2025, he will sing Beppe in Pagliacci with the Opera Festival of Chicago. Fernández has been recognized as a finalist in the Patricia Crump Vocal Competition, a semifinalist in the D’Angelo Young Artist Vocal Competition, and a semifinalist and honorable mention in the Young Patronesses of the Opera Competition.
