I'm Austin Elkins, a junior at Arnold O. Beckman High School. Currently, I am the bass/baritone section leader in my school's Mixed and Madrigal choirs and the president of my school's theatre program. Though I've been involved in singing in some capacity for ~9 years, I started seriously looking into it as a career in 2022. Since then, I have taken professional vocal lessons and gotten far more involved in the arts. I have performed at Carnegie Hall and the Sydney Opera House, along with attending Berklee's Vocal Choral Intensive summer program in Boston. Becoming involved with lessons and other competitions independently has also given me many opportunities in school as well. Because of my improvement and greater investment into the arts, I was given the opportunity to found and lead Beckman's first-ever competition group, a men's barbershop quartet. Furthermore, I was promoted to section leader in two choirs, inducted into the Choir Council, selected as the president of my school's theatre program for the 2023-24 school year, and awarded the choice vocal award for the VAPA highlights board and the Outstanding Junior award at the first-ever yearly VAPA awards ceremony. I also recently performed the lead role of Gomez Addams in my High School's biennial musical. I have also been involved in OC Musical Memories, a volunteer organization that performs monthly concerts for retirement homes in the OC area, performing songs from the 40s to 60s for the residents. I hope to one day perform opera on a professional level.
