Amy Maude Helfer, American mezzo-soprano, is gaining attention as a versatile singing actor, especially noted for her comedic timing and "gorgeous voice."

Recent operatic and oratorio credits include CARMEN in the European premiere of director Andrea DelGiudice’s acclaimed production of Carmen at the Narnia Festival in Italy, DINAH (Trouble in Tahiti) with Boheme Opera - NJ, VERA BORONEL (The Consul) with Bronx Opera, BABA THE TURK (The Rake's Progress) with String Orchestra of Brooklyn, MERCÉDÈS (Carmen) with Opera Theater of Connecticut, NANCY (Albert Herring) with Bronx Opera, FRADE (The Dybbuk) at Queens College and Merkin Hall, alto soloist in Part One of Handel’s Messiah at Rutgers, and alto soloist in Haydn's Lord Nelson Mass with Manhattan Concert Productions at Carnegie Hall.

Recent credits in operetta and musical theatre include MRS. LOVETT (Sweeney Todd) at the Hawaii Performing Arts Festival, soloist in Sondheim, Golden Age/ Bernstein and Cole Porter concerts with Opera Theater of Connecticut at the Sanibel Music Festival, TESSA (The Gondoliers), LADY ANGELA (Patience), MELISSA (Princess Ida), LEILA (Iolanthe), and KATE (The Pirates of Penzance) with New York Gilbert and Sullivan Players (NYGASP), soloist at Ivoryton Playhouse's summer cabaret series “Playhouse on the Shore,” PETRA (A Little Night Music) with Madison Lyric Stage, and PHOEBE (The Yeomen of the Guard) at Winter Opera Saint Louis.

Upcoming appearances include a title role debut as IOLANTHE with NYGASP at Kaye Playhouse, RUTH (The Pirates of Penzance) in her debut with Utopia Opera, and reprising the role of PITTI-SING (The Mikado “Re-imagined”) with NYGASP at Kaye Playhouse.

Previous highlights include PHOEBE (Yeomen) at the International G&S Festival in Malvern & Harrogate UK and New York City Center, LADY SAPHIR (Patience) and PRINCESS KALYBA (Utopia, Limited) with NYGASP, semi-finalist in the 2013 Lotte Lenya Competition, CHERUBINO (Le nozze di Figaro) and ARTIST-IN-RESIDENCE at Dayton Opera, HANSEL at Boston Lyric Opera-Opera New England, STÉPHANO (Roméo et Juliette) with dell'Arte Opera Ensemble, CLOTILDE LOMBASTE (The New Moon), SUSAN (The Desert Song), and ETHEL BRANDER (Rose-Marie) with Light Opera of New York, and KATE (Pirates) with Boheme Opera-NJ.

Amy holds a Bachelor of Music degree in both Voice Performance and Music Education from Oberlin College Conservatory of Music, and a Master of Music degree in Voice Performance from Boston University. She has served annually as a high holiday cantorial soloist since 2003, and sings in the professional choir at Temple Emanu-El in Manhattan.

A native of Cheshire, Connecticut, Amy currently resides in New York City.
