Bio

My name is Claire Shirley, and I am a senior vocalist at Wade Hampton High School and the Fine Arts Center in Greenville, SC. My passion for music began when I started singing in a choir, Chicora Voices, at the age of nine. I began taking voice lessons in seventh grade and successfully auditioned for the voice program at the Greenville County Fine Arts Center. Over the past two summers, I have also been grateful for the opportunity to attend several wonderful summer programs, including the Vocal/Choral Intensive at Boston Conservatory, Musical Theatre Camp at the University of Georgia, and Young Artist Vocal Experience at Furman University. In addition to singing, I enjoy dancing, writing, traveling, and any kind of performance. I have also served as the treasurer, secretary, and president of the Tri-M Music Honor Society chapter at the Fine Arts Center. Within the past year I have performed in several voice recitals and scenes programs, NATS competitions, and musicals at the South Carolina Children's Theatre. Much of my inspiration comes from my relationships and experiences, as well as my incredible voice teacher, Danielle Knox. In the future I plan to pursue both voice and neuroscience so that I can train as a speech pathologist and specialize in helping singers with vocal injuries and disorders. I love music and singing, and I’m so thankful that I’ve had so many opportunities to share that joy with others.
