Bio

Maya Narayan is a senior currently attending Goshen High School and studying voice with Mrs. Sandra Hill.

Maya started her musical endeavors when she was in third grade, joining Goshen College’s Community School of the Arts Choir called ‘Rejoice’. She has been in this college choir ever since and graduated from ‘Rejoice’ choir to ‘Shout for Joy’ choir and finally to ‘Sommo Voci’ choir. She has also been a part of her high school’s choir since her freshman year. She has been a part of her school’s Advanced Crimson Choir and Crimsonaires (show choir) for two years.

Maya has had the pleasure of being in 13 musicals since she started theatre in 2017. Some of her highlight roles include Sarah Brown in Guys and Dolls, Wednesday Addams in The Addams Family, Moana in Moana Jr. (twice), Jafar in Aladdin Dual Language, and Sally in Sally Sells Seashells (and You Can, Too!). She was accepted into the Broadway Artists Alliance in New York City and attended the 2022 session 1, singing a solo for the final industry showcase and earning a solo in the final group number.

Her other music experiences include singing at Catholic churches for midnight masses, in weddings, at the Goshen High School 2022 graduation, the national anthem for school events, and at 10 elementary schools as a part of her show choir. She has been invited to sing at the Indiana State Fair, Elkhart County 4H Fair, and Purdue Round-Up 2022. Maya has also been involved with numerous singing competitions (listed in the category above). She was one of only three individuals chosen to sing for the Schmidt Vocal Arts Virtual Cohort B masterclass/awards ceremony in May of 2022. She was chosen by Dr. Alison Acord.

Maya’s other special skills include golf, public speaking, swimming, speaking some Spanish, creating floral arrangements, sewing, candle-making, sight-reading, and training dogs in obedience, showmanship, and agility.

Maya is a straight A student with a 4.2 GPA and has won numerous academic awards. She is an officer in her school’s Student Council, Multicultural Youth Alliance, Key Club, and IB Panel. She is the MVP (3 years) and Captain (3 years) of her girls golf team and is the manager for the boys golf team (2 years). She has served as a Key Club representative at the state level for three years and has served as a Student Page for Indiana senators. She was 2021’s most outstanding 4-H’er, given the award by the Goshen Go-Getters.
