Bio

Daphne Buan, soprano, is a passionate storyteller with a dedication to sharing the stories of yesterday and today with audiences around the world. She is currently pursuing her Master’s degree in vocal performance at Bard College Conservatory of Music, studying under Lorraine Nubar.

An Eastman School of Music alumna, Buan studied under Kathryn Cowdrick. Her credits with Eastman Opera Theatre include; Ainadamar (Nuria), Dido and Aeneas (Belinda), We’ve Got Our Eye On You (Enyo cover), and Alcina (Morgana cover). Her concert work at Eastman was diverse, including many performances with Eastman’s early music ensemble Collegium Musicum, Crumb’s Ancient Voices of Children, Handel’s The Mesiah, and Vivaldi’s Gloria. Buan concluded her time at Eastman performing a recital titled “Sonnets” with works by Debussy, Handel, Heggie, Hoiby, Shostakovich, Sondheim, and Strauss.

Other opera credits include Hänsel und Gretel (Gretel), Gianni Schicci (Lauretta), and Die Zauberflöte (Pamina) at Queens Summer Vocal Institute, as well as Cosi Fan Tutte (Despina) and Lilacs and Lillies (Aneta) at Vienna Summer Music Festival. Buan has also had the pleasure of performing in many scenes programs singing from operas such as Les Contes d’Hoffman (Guilietta) with Rochester Summer Opera, La Serva Padrona (Serpina) and Il Matrimonio Segreto (Carolina) at Si Parla, Si Canta, and Hänsel und Gretel (Gretel) and Le Nozze di Figaro (Susanna) at Brevard Summer Music Institute.

Buan is one of the 2025 winners of the Classical Singer’s 2025 Vocal Competition, placing second in the university division.

Buan will be making her role debut at Bard Conservatory as Nella in Gianni Schicci this March, as well as singing in the chorus of Amelia Goes to the Ball. Later this spring, she will sing in a project with Missy Mazzoli and perform as a soloist in the Kurtág Festival.
