Cole Denton is a Graduate Assistant of Voice Pedagogy & Performance and Musicology at Penn State. He is a graduate of the Crane School of Music at SUNY Potsdam where he earned a BM in Vocal Performance and Music Education. As a New York native he earned his Teaching Certificate working in the capitol region school districts teaching K-12 music and chorus. His continued love for music includes the genre of opera and studying its long history. With his soaring countertenor voice Cole is heavily drawn to singing early music. He enjoys researching historical performance practices, opera singers of the past, and opera's role in showcasing diverse genders, and sexualities.
In the past he has performed with Crane Opera Ensemble, Chazy Musical Theatre Company, Hawaii Performing Arts Festival and Penn State Opera, performing roles in the various plays and musicals including Jay Styx in Offenbach’s Orpheus in the Underworld, Mrs. Nolan in Menotti’s The Medium, and the Spirit in Purcell’s Dido & Aeneas. Cole has also been the boy soprano soloist for Leonard Bernstein's Chichester Psalms with the Plattsburgh State University Orchestra.
