Bio

Fred Redd is an experienced and versatile performer with experience in concert, opera, musical theatre, recitals, radio, television and film. His concert work has taken him many times on the main stages of Carnegie Hall and his operatic performances have taken him to Lincoln Center on many occassions. His opera credits include over 20 principal roles with opera companies including New York City Opera, Connecticut Grand Opera, Opera North, Opera Carolina, Teatro Grattacielo, Peidmont Opera, Houston Opera Ebony, Verismo Opera among others. London's Opera Now magazine describes Fredrick as "a compelling vocal actor" and having "an excellent voice" in the Eugene O'Neill review. Fred's concert work include performances of over 20 classical oratorio works with orchestras. Fred's television and film credits include Emmy nominated "Great Performances: Live from Lincoln Center:" New York City Opera’s production of “Porgy and Bess”, National TV Commercial singing for US Open, and CUNY-TV Interview “Fredrick Redd...Building NY, NY Stories", hosted by Michael Stoler. His radio appearances include the national broadcast of his solo recital at the Chicago Cultural Center on 98.7 WFMT Chicago and an interview on 100.1 Woodstock Radio for a concert promotion in Kingston, NY. His Off-Broadway credits include leading roles such as King Herod in "Sunset Salome", Aruhm in the world premiere of "The Satin Cloak" by Martin Halpern, and the title role in the opera "The Emperor Jones" by Gruenberg.

Some of the roles he has performed include the following operas: Il Trovatore (Count di Luna), I Pagliacci (Tonio), Un Ballo in Maschera (Renato), Tosca (Scarpia), Carmen (Escamillo), Madama Butterfly (Sharpless), Aida (Amonasro), La Traviata (Germont), La Boheme (Marcello) and the title roles in Emperor Jones, Porgy & Bess, Nabucco, and Rigoletto.

Current/ Recent

On November 29th, Fred will sing the role of Senator Norton in the upcoming production of "Frederick Douglas" with Trilogy Opera. September, Fred performed in a concert entitled "Beloved Songs from the Stage and Screen" singing from "South Pacific", "Showboat" and "Ragtime" in Kingston, NY. Fred created the central character James Hairston in the World Premier and live performance of "Martinsville 7" with Trilogy Opera performed in August. Fredrick was also seen as Jean ValJean in a spoofed rendition of the Les Miserable's One Day More in a virtual performance with the Creative Stage Spectacular. Other virtual concerts included "Harwood's Holiday Concert", "Heart of Opera", "Heart of Broadway", "Springtime in New York" and "Opera Around the World" with Fred singing arias from "The Messiah", "Il Trovatore", "South Pacific", "Sweeney Todd", "Emporer Jones", and "Porgy and Bess".

Season Prior to Covid

Fred returned to Carnegie Hall's main stage as soloist in Mark Hayes’ "Te Deum" with Mid-America and returned to New York City Opera joining the cast as a featured artist in the world premiere of "Stonewall". Other concert work included soloist in Puccini’s "Messa di Gloria" in Rochester, NY with the Penfield Symphony Orchestra, Escamillo in "Carmen" with the Downtown Symphony Orchestra.

Fred is a member of the Actor’s Equity Association (AEA) and the American Guild of Musical Artists (AGMA). He is currently a board member for the William Warfield Scholarship Fund and the Concert Artist Guild. In Fredrick’s formative years, he studied trombone and piano and took addition studies at the Julliard School and in Italy at the Accademia Chigiana and the Spoleto Vocal Institute. Has an engineering degree (music minor) from the University of Texas at Austin and an MBA from Rochester Institute of Technology. Fredrick has also taught vocal master classes at Brown University and Salem College in North Carolina. In addition, Fredrick is an active athlete and has completed over 20 triathlons, 4 marathons and becoming an IRONMAN finisher in 2017 and 2018.
