Bio

Heralded as “delightful, with the right note of playfulness and a beautiful voice that projected clearly into the large auditorium” by Cleveland Plain Dealer, soprano Jessica Lynn Crowell has successfully begun launching a professional singing career. Cleveland Classical called Ms. Crowell “simply delightful” and “appropriately giddy” during a past performance as Papagena in Opera Circle’s Die Zauberflöte. Jessica has had the pleasure of performing a world premiere of Beneath Suspicion, by award-winning composer Jesse Ayers, at the CFAMC conference and was later named a semi-finalist for the American Prize Ernst Bacon Award for a performance of the same work. As a three-time Voices of Canton (VOCI) competition winner, Ms. Crowell has been seen as Esmeralda in their collaborative production of Bartered Bride with Opera Circle. With additional certification in voice and piano pedagogy, Ms. Crowell completed her Bachelor of Arts at Malone University, studying voice with Cynthia Wohlschlager. While a member of Malone Opera Theatre, Ohio audiences have seen her in a variety of roles including Pamina in Mozart’s Die Zauberflöte, Monica in Menotti’s The Medium, Cinderella in Sondheim’s Into the Woods, Susanna in Mozart’s Le Nozze di Figaro and the title role in Puccini’s Suor Angelica. Jessica has also been seen by Ohio audiences as Magda in Menotti’s The Consul with Nightingale Opera Theatre’s Young Artist Program as well as in their scenes program as Norma in Norma, Leonora in Il Trovatore, and Donna Anna in Don Giovanni. Jessica also sang as a young artist with Resonanz Opera, again as the title role in Suor Angelica. Between degrees, Jessica was located in Harrisonburg, Virginia, studying with Kevin McMillan, where she was seen on stage with James Madison University Opera Theatre. Ms. Crowell is currently continuing her studies under Robin Rice at The Shepherd School of Music, Rice University in Houston, Texas where she sang the role of Vitellia in their 2020 production of La Clemenza di Tito. This summer she will be seen with Pittsburgh Festival Opera singing the role of Lysia in Mark Adamo’s Lysistrata.
