Bio

Hello! My name is Maeve Sullivan, and I am an undergraduate BM Vocal Performance major from Chicago, IL at Oklahoma City University studying under the tutelage of Dr. Autumn West and coached by Dr. Jake Johnson and Joe Fitzgerald. I have previously studied voice under Karen Brunssen and Lindsay Foreman as well as the Merit School of Music. At Merit, I was able to collaborate with all different kinds of musicians across every instrument. I am equally as passionate about performing as I am about encouraging and initiating collaboration with any and every kind of musician. I was also fortunate enough to have a similar experience gained through art administration with the Youth Opera Council at Lyric Opera of Chicago. The Youth Opera Council’s main focus was to try to figure out how to encourage as many young people as possible to attend the opera through meetings with members of Lyric’s staff across all branches. Accessibility and inclusivity is super important to me in general, but especially for opera as it is becoming an art form that is becoming increasingly misunderstood and undervalued. My ultimate career goal would be to teach voice at a university level and to open more accessible schools of music for burgeoning young musicians, but I am planning to pursue performance earlier in my career. In performance, it is important to me to be versatile as well as specific in storytelling while maintaining vocal efficacy. However, versatility can mean a lot of things. I wish to be versatile across all genres, and there is nothing I enjoy more than creating beautifully complex art with beautifully complex and talented individuals. Overall as an artist, I strive to communicate universal human experiences for the purpose of encouraging empathy for all.
