Bio

Silja Aalto is a Finnish soprano. Aalto made her opera debut in Estonian National Opera in 2018 singing the role of Countess Almaviva in W.A. Mozart’s Marriage of Figaro. Since then she has appeared as a regular guest in Estonian National Opera, performing there every season singing the roles of Contessa (Mozart, Marriage of Figaro), Mimi (Puccini, La Boheme) and Leonora (Verdi, Il Trovatore).

Mrs. Aalto sang the role of Leonore (Beethoven, Fidelio) in Oulu City theatre (2020) and at Espoo Organnight Festival (2021). Aalto’s other operaroles include Sieglinde in Wagner’s Die Walküre (Eurajoki Belcanto 2021), 1.Dame in Mozart’s Magicflute (Tampere Opera 2022), Frasquita in Bizet’s Carmen (Savonlinna Opera Festival 2022), First Woman in Kokkonen’s Last Temptations (Jyväskylä Opera 2022), Mrs. Alice in Giuseppe Verdi’s Falstaff, Helena in Benjamin Britten’s Midsummernights’s dream and Minna in Einojuhani Rautavaara’s opera The Gift of Magi (Sibelius Academy).

Aalto is a Grand Prize winner of the Metropolitan International Vocal Competition opera division in New York (January 2017) and a winner of Lyra New York International Vocal Competition Opera division (December 2017). Aalto won 2nd prize and won the lieder section in international Elizabeth Connell -prize opera competition in September 2017 in Sydney, Australia. She won second prize in PMLF Vocal Competition in Tallinn, Estonia in April 2017. She is also the winner of Toivo Kuula -singing competition 2016, Alavus Finland.

Her future engagements includes (season 2023) Elsa in Wagner’s Lohengrin, 1.Dame in Mozart’s Magicflute and soprano in Verdi’s Requiem.

Her studies has been supported by Finnish Cultural Fund, Martin Wegelius Memory Fund, Selim Eskelin Foundation and Finnish Wagner Society.
