Bio

Sophia Grace Donelan is a freshman studying at The New England Conservatory of Music. She is studying voice with Lisa Saffer. During the summer of 2018, Sophia studied at the Boston University Tanglewood Institute Young Artists Vocal Program under the direction of Penelope Bitzas. She was chosen to perform in a masterclass with Kelley O'Connor, sang the role of Frasquita in the Card Trio from Bizet's "Carmen", was a soloist for the "West Side Story" medley at Sejii Ozawa Hall, and performed with the BUTI Chorus and Boston Symphony Orchestra conducted by John Williams. in 2019, Sophia was rewarded the Morris Arts Coladarci Scholarship Award and the Notables Singers Scholarship Award. In 2018 she was a National Semi-finalist in the CS Music Vocal Competition and in 2017 she was a National finalist in the New York Lyric Opera Vocal Competition. Miss Donelan has also studied voice and acting with Stan Dunn, Adria Firestone, and David Maiullo. Sophia also has a strong background in musical theatre as she has performed the roles of Anne Egerman ("A Little Night Music"), Cinderella ("R&H's Cinderella") Hodel ("Fiddler on the Roof"), Miss Dorothy ("Thoroughly Modern Millie"), Mother Abbess ("Sound of Music") and Christine Daae (selections from "Phantom of the Opera"). As well as operatic repertoire and musical theatre, Sophia has been part of the company, Light Opera of New Jersey for 10 years and has performed in many Gilbert and Sullivan operettas, as well as being the First Soprano in their Savoy Faire Gilbert and Sullivan Ensemble for community outreach. In the Savoy Faire Ensemble she has sung various roles from title role in "Patience" to Josephine in "HMS Pinafore". Miss Donelan wishes to graduate in 2023 from New England Conservatory and go on to obtain a master's degree in opera. She will pursue a career in opera, operetta, and classical musical theatre.
