Bio

Hailing from Rochester, New York, soprano Eleanor Steinmetz is a recent graduate of the Fredonia School of Music where she studied with Dr. Angela Haas and participated in masterclasses with Broadway’s Liz Callaway, composers Libby Larsen and Jake Heggie, vocal coach Mark Trawka, as well as Christopher & Ellen Scholl from Bowling Green State University. Steinmetz’ performance highlights at Fredonia include Noémie in Massenet’s Cendrillon, scene performances of Papagena and the Second Lady in Mozart’s Die Zauberflöte, Rose in Weill’s Street Scene, Adina in Donizetti’s L‘elisir d‘amore, Mrs. Ford both in Verdi’s Falstaff and Nicolai’s The Merry Wives of Windsor, and the title role in Madama Butterfly. She was featured on the inaugural Fredonia Art Song Project, premiering Averey Scoccia’s Mirrors.

Outside of Fredonia, Eleanor can be seen as a soprano soloist at Orchard Park Presbyterian Church in Buffalo, New York. Eleanor made her Italian debut in 2017 as an Emerging Vocal Artist at the Brancaleoni International Music Festival (BIMF) in Piobbico, Italy, where she was coached by Howard Watkins of the Metropolitan Opera in scenes by Cavalli, Offenbach and Bernstein, as well as in the cast of Donizetti’s L’elisir d’amore. At BIMF, she was a featured recitalist in their evening chamber music series. After her time in Piobbico, Steinmetz went onto to cover the role of “Mother” in Westminster Presbyterian Church’s 2018 production of Amahl and the Night Visitors. Steinmetz won or placed at the Central New York-Finger Lakes NATS Audition in both 2017 and 2019.

Having education in vocal pedagogy, voice science, and vocal hygiene, Eleanor's goal as a teacher is to help students of all skill levels find their unique, healthy voice. Miss Steinmetz builds confidence in her students by building upon the musical foundation that they already have, whether it be the knowledge of a fourth year violin performance major, a teenager who has yet to sing outside of their shower, or a child who's only performance experience is in their living room. Eleanor's priority is to make sure that her students always feel confident in the sound that they're creating, regardless of what vocal technique they have before entering her studio.
