Bio

Kayla E. Kovacs is a passionate young soprano from Salamanca, New York, and is currently located in Rochester NY. Kayla is a recent graduate from The Crane School of Music at SUNY Potsdam, and graduated with her Bachelor’s Degree in Vocal Performance in May of 2021. During her time at Crane, Kayla studied with professor Donald George, and Suzanne Kantorski. Kayla plans to attend graduate school to earn a Master’s degree in Opera/Vocal Performance in the Fall of 2022.

Her recent performances include assorted opera scenes with the Crane Opera Ensemble, “Carousel” as Ms. Mullin, "Le Nozze di Figaro" as La Contessa, "Speed Dating Tonight!" as Dater #8 (Do You Like Cats?), “Beauty and the Beast” as Mdme. de la Grande Bouche, and the world premiere of Tom Cipullo's "Mayo" as Jo directed by Dean Anthony. Kayla has also performed Mozart's Mass in C Minor with the Crane Symphony orchestra as the soprano soloist, and has performed at the Childwold Memorial Presbyterian Church. She has sung in many ensembles at Crane including Concert Choir, Vocal Consort, The Phoenix Treble Group, and Hosmer Choir. Kayla has also sung assorted Baroque voice and trumpet duets on student recitals.

Kayla was also president of the Crane Opera Club during the Fall 2020-Spring 2021 academic year. During her time as president, she coordinated events with guest faculty and guest artists, organized meetings and sponsored masterclasses, as well as created performance opportunities for her fellow students and club members during the COVID-19 pandemic by creating virtual recital programs that were streamed via YouTube for the public. Kayla also performed assorted opera selections in these recitals with her colleagues.

Apart from singing, Kayla has skills in audio & video production – specifically using software such as Audacity, Logic, Final Cut, and DaVinci Resolve. She also has culinary skills and, in the past, has run an Instagram blog for her culinary endeavors. Kayla has been a program assistant and music director for a summer theatre program called Arts Alive – located in Salamanca, NY – since the summer of 2016. She also has musical skills in trumpet, ukulele, and is an excellent whistler.
