Bio

Born in Australia, soprano Helena Mamich pursued her undergraduate studies and a Master’s degree in Music of Opera singing and Chamber Music at the Australian National University, which she succesfully finished in the class of acclaimed Australian tenor Dr Paul McMahon. She has also completed School of Medicine at University of Split in Croatia. During her studies she has participated in masterclasses by David Aronson (Vienna State Opera), Anthony Legge (Opera Australia), Prof.Angelika Luz (HKMD Stuttgart) and Pille Lill (Estonian Opera).

Ms Mamich specializes in classical contemporary and verissimo operatic repertoire. Works by classical contemporary composers demand high command of sight reading atonal music, vocal virtuosity and an outstanding level of stage presence are operas and chamber music she feels most passionately drawn to.

Roles performed onstage and concert include Innana (I Desire) Liu (Turandot), La Suor Zelatrice (Suor Angelica), Mimi (La Boheme), Ciesca (Gianni Schicci), Mrs Gobineau (The Medium), Michaela (Carmen), Contessa (La Nozze di Figaro), Second Lady (The Magic Flute) Proserpina/Messagiera (L’Orfeo), Sorcress (Dido & Aeneas), Perdita (Like an Old Tale).

Oratorio and motet projects included principal roles in: Mass in c-minor (W.A.Mozart), Requiem in d-minor (W.A.Mozart), Vespreae solennis de confessori (W.A.Mozart), Membra Jesu nostri (Dietrich Buxtehude), Die sieben letzte Wörte underes Erlöser am Kreuze (J.Haydn), Stabat Mater (Giovanni Battista Pergolesi),Messias (G.F.Handel), Gloria in D-major (Antonio Vivaldi), Exultate, Jubilate (W.A.Mozart), Quam Pulchra est (Ivan Lukacic), Cithara Octochorda (Anzelmo Canjuga arr.) and The Mass (Leonard Bernstein).

As a recitalist, she focuses on Croatian composers and composers from 20th and 21st century.

Ms Mamich was the 2014 recipient of the prestigious Christel Larko Scholarship for an outstanding young musician and the Traveling Scholarship from Friends of the School of the Music. In year 2015 she is a recepient of Kornfled Postgraduate Scholarship for Opera singers and Fankhauser Travelling Scholarship.

In year 2017 she has been awarded with a prize Transition Award – Endowment of Excellence from Australian National University for her academic and performance achievements. In year 2019 she is a winner of Večernjakova Domovnica as the most successful musician od Croatian diaspora.
