Award-winning mezzo-soprano Caroline Lee is recognized for her “unique and rich” sound and ability to breathe life into her roles. Lee received her B.M. in Vocal Performance and B.M.E. from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, and her M.M. in Vocal Performance from Baylor University. While in school, Lee entertained audiences as Kate (The Pirates of Penzance), Sandman (Hansel and Gretel), Sorceress (Dido and Aeneas), Truman Capote (The Scarlet Professor), Mother / Squirrel (L’enfant et les sortileges), Dritte Dame (Die Zauberflöte), Ma Moss (The Tender Land), Zita (Gianni Schicchi), Lady Jane (Patience), and Gaston (Monsieur et Madame Denis). Other previous roles include Amastre (Serse), La maestra della novizie (Suor Angelica), Prince Orlofsky, cover (Die Fledermaus) and La principessa, cover (Suor Angelica).

Lee is thrilled to explore Oratorio and choral repertoire, both as a soloist and ensemble member. She was a featured soloist for Handel’s Messiah with Vox Seraphim (2023), the alto soloist on Lili Boulanger’s Hymne au Soleil at the Southwest ACDA Conference (2022), and the soloist for Debussy’s Trois Chansons (2018). Lee enjoyed performances with the UMass Amherst Bach Festival of the B Minor Mass (2017) under the direction of Simon Carrington, and the St. Matthew Passion (2019) with Andrew Megill.

Lee continues to gain recognition in competition. She is honored to have placed 5th in the Advanced Treble division of the Texoma NATS (2021), advance to the semi-finals of the Dallas Opera Guild Biennial Lone Star Competition (2023), and be the recipient of the Outstanding Graduate Student in Voice Award from Baylor University (2023).​

This past year, Lee was a featured alto soloist in Vox Seraphim’s double bill of Handel’s Dixit Dominus and Vivaldi’s Gloria, and performed the gender-bent role of Dr. Molly Testa in Donizetti's Don Pasquale with Quisisana.

Lee is thrilled to join Boulder Opera for Puccini's Il Tabarro this February and perform with Cantare Montibus for their 2024 / 2025 season.
