Bio

Matthew Merolla, a baritone based in Scranton, PA, received his Bachelor of Music degree from Mansfield University and graduated with a Master of Music degree from Binghamton University. As a Vocal Performance major at Mansfield University, he performed roles including John Proctor in Robert Ward’s The Crucible, Mr. Ford in Otto Nicolai’s The Merry Wives of Windsor, Guglielmo in Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s Cosi Fan Tutte, and Betto in Giacomo Puccini’s Gianni Schicchi. At Binghamton he performed the roles of the Black Cat, the Clock, and the Armchair in Maurice Ravel’s opera, L’Enfant et Les Sortilèges, as well as the roles of Ottone in Claudio Monteverdi’s L’Incoronazione di Poppea, Peter in Englebert Humperdinck’s Hansel and Gretel, and Gianni Schicchi in Giacomo Puccini’s Gianni Schicchi. At Tri Cities Opera he performed the role of Big Al in Edward Barnes’ opera Mystery on the Docks, and Il Conte Di Ceprano in Giuseppe Verdi’s Rigoletto. Matthew has won numerous First Place awards at National Association for Teachers of Singing competitions, was a Semifinalist at the Classical Singer Vocal Competition (2024), and won First Place at the Civic Morning Musicals Competition (2025).
