Bio

Philip Sarrouy (stage name Louis Meirssen) is a French bass-baritone and writer known for his expressive interpretation and commanding stage presence.

In France, he holds a Master’s in Philosophy from the University of Reims, completed Arts Ph.D. training at Lille University ; where he conducted research in cinema studies at the Center for the Study of Contemporary Art in Villeneuve-d'Ascq.

In Belgium, he later trained at the Royal Conservatory of Liège, specializing in classical voice. Currently, he refines his operatic technique under Professor Juan Carlos Morales in Paris.

He has performed at prestigious venues, across France , Portugal and Belgium including the Royal Opera of Wallonia, the Philharmonic Auditorium of Liège, and the Palais des Beaux-Arts of Charleroi.

A highly decorated artist, Philip has received numerous awards, including the Superior + Award at the Radda Rise Voice Achievement Festival (2023), Master Prize at the Golden Prestige International Music Competition( 2024), Best Musician of the Season at the Clementi International Music Competition (2024), Best Vocalist of the season at the International Music Leadership Award, (2024), Diamond Prize at the Max Bruch International Music Competition, (2025).

His repertoire spans opera, oratorio, and art song, with notable roles such as Leporello (Don Giovanni), Pandolfe (Cinderella), and Zuniga (Carmen). He continues to expand his career with upcoming roles in Macbeth, Tristan und Isolde, and Don Quichotte and next April, he will perform at the Kammermusiksaal of the Berlin Philharmonie.

Philip is deeply invested in interdisciplinary artistic research and creative writing, with a particular focus on fictional writing (Proematic).

He also practices Tai Chi Chuan (Yang & Zhaobao styles), Yi Quan, and Qi Gong in Amiens, France
