Show Synopsis: Cinderella is bullied by her evil stepmother and two stepsisters and given nothing by them, but wants to go to the royal ball where the Prince will choose his wife. Her fairy godmother appears and enchants objects from around Cinderella's house to make her look like an elegant princess until midnight. Cinderella and the Prince meet at the ball and fall in love, but when midnight strikes, Cinderella runs away from the castle in a hurry and leaves a single glass slipper behind. The Prince asks every young lady in the kingdom to try it on in an attempt to find his love, but when Cinderella's stepmother discovers it was her, she locks Cinderella away. Cinderella escapes and shows the Prince that she fits into the glass slipper, and they live happily ever after. Character: Fairy Godmother, a kind magical woman who sees the best in people and encourages the underdogs to achieve their goals; optimistic, generous, and sees pretty much everything unseen by normal people. Song Context: The Fairy Godmother helps Ella get ready for the ball that the Prince is throwing exclusively to find her, encouraging her to carry on with her dreams although her stepmother has banished her own daughter from the house for loving a mere commoner and forbidden Ella from going to the ball. Fun Facts: 1) This adaptation of the fairytale of Cinderella was originally a movie musical starring Julie Andrews. 2) Despite the story and score's popularity, Rodgers and Hammerstein's Cinderella did not come to Broadway until 2013, when it debuted a new book and several new songs. 3) This song was originally written for the film Main Street to Broadway, and Rodgers and Hammerstein performed it themselves in the film. It was first used in an adaptation of Cinderella in 1997 when Disney made a television film starring Whitney Houston as the Fairy Godmother and included this song as the finale.
