Show Synopsis:
Dr. Frederick von Frankenstein is ashamed of his family name, since it is associated with the man who brought the dead back to life and created a monster. He inherits his grandfather's castle in Transylvania and has to say goodbye to his flirtatious fiancee to travel to the castle for awhile. The descendant of his grandfather's henchman, Igor, meets him in Transylvania, convinced that he and the new Dr. Frankenstein will make many scientific breakthroughs with the beautiful lab assistant Inga. Frederick becomes enthralled with his grandfather's scientific journals and decides to reanimate a dead body, but Igor accidentally puts an abnormal brain into a normal body. The Monster wakes up and runs away from the castle and the townspeople chase him to capture him. Frederick and Inga have a romantic moment right before Frederick's fiancee Elizabeth arrives out of the blue. When the Monster is captured, Frederick shows him love and teaches him to sing and dance so that he will be adored by an audience. During Frederick and the Monster's performance, a stage light explodes and the Monster runs away with Elizabeth and they fall in love. Frederick tries to transfer his intelligence to the Monster, but it does not appear to work, and the town hangs Frederick for (apparently) killing Elizabeth. The Monster, now an intelligent creature, arrives and revives Frederick, and just as the crowd turns on both of them, Elizabeth reappears and accepts the Monster's marriage proposal. The Monster is elected Mayor of Transylvania, Frederick decides to live in his grandfather's castle, and Inga agrees to marry him.

Character:
Frau Blucher, an older woman who works as the caretaker of the Frankenstein mansion and knows all of its secrets; mysterious and a bit severe.

Song Context:
Frederick, Igor, and Inga discover Frau Blucher hiding in Dr. Frankenstein's former laboratory, having been drawn there by the music she was playing on her violin. Frederick deduces that Frau Blucher knows more about Dr. Frankenstein and the mansion than she has previously let on, and then figures out that they were intimate. Frau Blucher confirms his suspicions.

Fun Facts:
1) This musical was based on the popular 1974 Mel Brooks film.
2) This song is based on a popular and well-recognized comic moment of the film.
3) In an interview with Broadway.com, Andrea Martin, who originated the role of Frau Blucher on Broadway, stated that "There's a clichéd, stereotypical housekeeper in all the horror films, so I kind of grouped them all together and put my comic spin on it. What's fun is the familiarity the audiences have with that kind of character combined with my specific take on it."

Love comes when you least suspect it,
Love dances in on a whim,
I thought maybe I could direct it,
But I never expected
A guy like him.

He was a bully und a brute,
He vas as crazy as a coot,
Still I didn't give a hoot -
He vas my boyfriend!

With ev'ry voman he vould flirt,
He alvays treated me like dirt,
But I vas happy to be hurt -
He vas my boyfriend!

I vas as pure as a virgin meadow,
Lying with Vicotr in the gloam.
Then he turned to me, that charmer, whispered, ""Let's play farmer.""
And plowed me 'til the cows came home!

He vas a monster and a beast,
His midnight bangings never ceased.
It didn't faze me in the least -
He vas my boyfriend!

I'll never forget the first time I met Victor. It vas on the village green, at the annual bock beer festival, where every beer cost a bock. I vas an innocent young lamb and he was a dirty old goat. He carried his hoops and mallets and I carried his balls. What a festival! Fun and games all day long. Archery, badminton, potato sack. Victor won the three-legged race...all by himself. It vas love at first sight.

He vas the one I gave my heart to,
But ve never wed even so,
If I mentioned wedlock,
He'd put me in a headlock!

Vhen I asked to be his wife,
He stabbed me with a kitchen knife.
Ach, where did the good times go?

If he had an angry fit,
I vas the first thing that he'd hit,
but I didn't give a shit -

He vas my boyfriend!"
