Show Synopsis:
The Pridelands lion king and queen Mufasa and Sarabi present their new cub Simba to the animal kingdom, while Mufasa's brother Scar resents the cub's birth because he is no longer in line for the throne. Simba grows up and Scar conspires to get him killed by hyenas, but when Mufasa saves Simba, Scar realizes he has to kill Mufasa to gain the throne. He stages Mufasa's death but convinces Simba it was his fault, and the hyenas chase him out of the kingdom, assuming he will die in the desert. Simba is taken in by Pumbaa and Timon, a warthog and a meerkat who teach him to stop worrying about everything he left behind and just enjoy life. Simba grows up and reunites with his childhood friend Nala, who left the Pridelands to find help against Scar's tyrannical rule and tries to get Simba to come back with her. Although they are beginning to fall in love, Simba refuses until the wise monkey Rafiki and the host of Mufasa convince him to remember his home and face his past. Simba fights Scar and regains control of the Pridelands as king with Nala as his queen, and they present their cub to the kingdom, completing the circle of life.

Character:
Nala, a loyal lioness who loves her pride and will do anything to keep it safe; funloving and smart.

Song Context:
Nala prepares to leave the Pridelands to find food and help for the lions after Scar refuses to listen to her and tries to seduce her. Rafiki and the lionesses bless her as she prepares for the difficult goodbye.

Fun Facts:
1. This musical was based on the popular animated children's film The Lion King, which was originally based on William Shakespeare's Hamlet.
2. This song was not in the original movie, and was added to give Nala a slightly larger role in the overall story of Simba's reclaiming of the kingdom. 3. Heather Headley, who made her Broadway debut playing Nala on Broadway, told TheLionKing.org in an interview that this was her favorite song to sing in the show.

"Fatshe leso lea halalela,
Fatshe leso lea halalela.

Shadowland.
The leaves have fallen,
This shadowed land,
This was our home.

The river's dry,
The ground has broken.
So I must go,
Now I must go.

And where the journey may lead me,
Let your prayers be my guide.
I cannot stay here, my family,
But I'll remember my pride.

I have no choice.
I will find my way.
Lea halalela.
Take this prayer.
What lies out there.
Lea halalela

And where the journey may lead you,
Let this prayer be your guide.
Though it may take you so far away,
Always remember your pride.

Fatshe leso lea halalela,
Fatshe leso lea halalela.

And where the journey may lead you,
Let this prayer be your guide.
Though it may take you so far away,
Always remember your pride.

Giza buyabo, giza buyabo
I will return, I will return
Beso bo
Giza buyabo, I will return
Giza buyabo, oh giza buyabo.
Beso bo, my people, beso bo."
