In the 2010 Broadway revival, Kristin Chenoweth played the role of Fran and in an interview with TIME Magazine, she said that when she played the role in summer stock at age 19, she "no idea, no understanding of the part. She has been so hurt and is in love with an unavailable man. I had no concept of what that meant, but now I do. Certainly at this age I can relate a lot more than I could at 19. At 19 I just liked the songs." She also said that the toughest part of the role was this portion of the plot: "She tries to take her life. And I've battled depression on and off since my 20's. I wouldn't say I've ever gone that far, But it's very difficult to do that eight times a week. It's very close to home. Am I basically a happy person? Yes. But have I battled depression, thoughts of not waking up? Sure. Have I been in love with a man who couldn't love me back in the way I needed? Yes." 3. Many major recording artists went on to record this song, including Dionne Warwick, Betty Buckley, and Johnny Mathis.
"Sometimes your eyes look blue to me Although I know they're really green. I seem to see you differently Changing as I'm treated kindly Or treated meanly. From moment to moment, You're two different people, Faithful and warm when I'm in your arms And then when you leave, You're so untrue, But however you are, Deep down, whatever you are, Whoever you are, I love you. Sometimes, I feel you're mine alone And yet I'm sure it's just not so. I get this feeling on my own After I've learnt if you're staying Or if you're going. From moment to moment, You're two different people: Someone I know as the man I love Or the man I wish I never knew. But however you are, Deep down, whatever you are, Whoever you are, I love you. Sometimes your eyes look blue to me."
