Mi metto la sul ciglio del colle e aspetto,

Chi sara? E come sara giunto che dira?
Who will-it-be? And when he-will-be arrived, what will-he-say?
          (And when he has arrived,)

Chiamera Butterfly dalla lontana.
He-will-call, "Butterfly," from-the distance.

Io senza dar risposta me ne staro nascosta
I without giving answer [myself] from-him will-stay hidden,
