Standard Internal Cuts in This Recording:  standard cuts are (unbeknownst to most singers) already incorporated into all  anthologized versions of this aria--from m. 37 to m.59 of the original score (counting the initial 16th-note pickup as m. ?0?), and from m. 72 to m. 79.  Thus the original uncut version has 102 measures, and the ?standard? version only 73.  While we have chosen to record this shorter ?standard? version here by virtue of its much greater familiarity, in our opinion the uncut version, despite its seeming added repetitiveness, also provides the aria with a good deal more melodic and harmonic variety.
