Fun Facts:
1) Henry Purcell composed this piece for incidental music in John Dryden's and Nathaniel Lee's theatrical adaptation of the Oedipus.
2) In the original play, this was sung by a priest trying to conjure King Lauis to discover the identity of his murderer, along with Tiresias and another priest.

"Music for a while
Shall all your cares beguile.
Wond'ring how your pains were eas'd
And disdaining to be pleas'd
Till Alecto free the dead
From their eternal bands,
Till the snakes drop from her head,
And the whip from out her hands."
