Show Synopsis:
A conman named Hubie is frustrated because he has not become a big success in life like John Henry Wheeler, so he goes off to find the slot machine whizzes he knew years ago so that they can sell jukeboxes. Hubie goes to his pancake parlor, where he remembers seeing a singing waitress named Tilda. He helps Tilda become a sensation, and she falls in love with John Henry Wheeler. Hubie crosses his friends to keep them together and keep Tilda ?their? sensation, and they throw him out of the business. Hubbies? wife Kay tells Tilda about Wheeler?s sexual escapades, but Wheeler sings and wins her back before starting a full-on jukebox war with Hubie?s group. Hubie and Kay break it off because of the warfare. Hubie is pointed out as the instigator of the entire affair in the U.S. Senate, and is thrilled to find himself in the national news and important for once. Kay returns as his fame diminishes, and Hubie realizes that Kay is all he needs to be happy.	

Character:
Tilda Mullen, a naïve watress catapulted to stardom and John Henry Wheeler, a sly and connviving man with loose morals but an intense love for Tilda; very smart and competitive.

Song Context:
Wheeler has admitted that he is a philanderer and Tilda is angry at him, but Wheeler sings to win her back and become her husband.

Fun Facts:
1) This song was the show's biggest hit, and became an American standard. 
2) President Kennedy decided he wanted to see Do Re Mi, but there were no available seats, so the composer Jule Styne asked a woman if she would give up her seat for the president elect. She told him she would if Kennedy asked her herself, and when he met her in the lobby, she fainted. 
3) Nancy Dussault originated the role of Tildy on Broadway, receiving a Best Featured Actress in a Musical Tony Award nomination and a Theatre World Award.
