Bio

Her voice and stage presence being described by audiences and industry professionals, as 'warm', 'exciting', 'unique', 'powerful', and 'the real thing', Canadian mezzo-soprano Karina Bray, is growing into a sought after performer for the large Operatic and Concert Mezzo Soprano Repertoire. Some of Ms. Bray's past operatic engagements include Fricka (study cover)/Roβweiβe from Wagner's Die Walküre, Wellgunde/2nd Norn from Wagner's Götterdämmerung, La Ciesca from Puccini's Gianni Schicchi, Flora Bervoix from Verdi's La Traviata, Acucena (cover) from Verdi's Il trovatore, the1st Maid/The Confidant in Strauss' Elektra, and Princess Adelaide in Straus' A Waltz Dream.

Ms. Bray is the recipient of the coveted Richard Wagner Stipendienstiftung, representing Canada in Bayreuth for 2023, a scholarship given to one person in Canada who shows a very promising future soloist career in Wagner's music.

In 2022, Ms. Bray was chosen with three other singers internationally to participate in the Bayreuther Festspiele Masterclass in Bayreuth, Germany to work with Catherine Foster. This Masterclass ended with a concert of Wagner's music in Villa Wahnfried using Wagner's original piano.

Before transitioning into mezzo-soprano repertoire, Ms. Bray performed as a soprano in leading and supporting roles. Her performances included the titular character of Puccini's Suor Angelica, Anna Maurrant from Kurt Weill’s Street Scene, and as Mimi from Puccini’s La Boheme.

Ms. Bray’s past education includes an Honours Bachelor of Music in Voice Performance degree, as well as attending the Goethe Institute in order to progress to the B1 level in German language proficiency. Her voice and stage training continues with Jean MacPhail in Toronto, Canada, internationally in Germany, and with Mignon Dunn in New York, USA.
