Bio

Kelly started singing at the age of five in her local church children’s choir. She grew up in Williamsburg, VA where she sang in school and church choirs for many years before deciding she wanted to study opera after seeing a performance of Carmen at Virginia Opera. She later moved to the Northern Virginia area to complete her undergraduate degree in Vocal Performance at George Mason University. She graduated magna cum laude in May 2019 and is currently pursuing auditions for graduate schools.

During her time at George Mason, she was an active participant in Mason Opera, performing in six mainstage productions and numerous opera scenes. Her most notable roles included “Leila” in Gilbert and Sullivan’s Iolanthe, “Mother” in Hansel and Gretel, and “Fiordiligi” and “Contessa” in scenes from Cosi fan tutte and Le Nozze di Figaro, respectively. She also sang in masterclasses for internationally renowned stars Ann Murray and Charlotte Hellekant.

Kelly was also an active member of the George Mason University Singers and University Chorale, and was a featured soloist on several occasions, including for excerpts from Carmina Burana, JS Bach’s Mass in B Minor, and Charpentier’s In nativitatem Domini canticum. She was also one of the soloists for Bernstein’s Chichester Psalms, performed by the George Mason University Singers in Reykjavik, Iceland. In 2017, she was selected to participate in the George Mason University Honors Recital.

Outside of George Mason, Kelly traveled to Novafeltria, Italy in the summer of 2018 to participate in La Musica Lirica, where she sang in the scenes program and in the chorus for Lucia di Lammermoor. Last summer, she traveled to New York City to play “Marcellina” in Manhattan Opera Studio’s production of Le Nozze di Figaro and also sang in an aria concert in the Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall. This summer, she will participate in the Chicago Summer Opera Virtual Opera Academy and study the role of the Dew Fairy for their postponed production of Hansel and Gretel.

Kelly currently studies with her teacher Debby Wenner in Alexandria, VA.
