Bio

The soprano Maria Del Pilar Gomez was born in San Luis Potosí, Mexico. She has been engaged in numerous national singing competitions since the age of ten. At the age of sixteen, Pilar joined the San Luis Potosí Symphony Orchestra’s vocal ensemble. From 2006 to 2010, Pilar participated as a soloist and choir member with the San Luis Potosí Symphony Orchestra in numerous opera performances, Die Zauberflöte, Die Fledermaus, Cavalleria Rusticana, Tosca, La Boheme, the world premier of Matilde, among others. In 2011, Pilar moved to Mexico City for advanced opera training in the National School of Music and debuted as Gianetta from the opera L’Elisir D'Amore by Donizetti in the Lenin Forum with the Mexico Opera Company. In 2016 Pilar moved to Austin, Texas and since then she has performed in several operas and has worked as voice teacher at a private music studio. Pilar has mentored several regional winners and an all state winner at the National Federation of Music clubs in 2019. She made her Austin debut as soloist, in the main role as Parasia in the Russian opera Sorochinskaya Yarmarka by the Russian composer Modest Mussorgsky, at the Scottish Rite Center in 2020. Pilar has participated in several competitions and won 1st place in the Semifinal of the Music International Grand Prix of 2021. Nowadays, Pilar is currently engaged in new competitions and she is perfecting her vocal and artistic skills at the University of Texas at Austin.
