Bio

Trinidadian soprano, Tamika-Diandra Joseph-Prado, is regarded as “a talented and versatile young singer…timing, vocal colour with impressive presentation,” (Biennial Music Festival of Trinidad and Tobago). Music has always been an important part of her life, as with most others in the field, but doubts about success from performing classical music dampened her zeal for pursuing such a career. She instead acquired a bachelor in Economics and Finance while remaining active in community choirs and productions of operas and other large scale works. However, while working as a Rating Analyst, she decided to get more formal training in music and received an Artist’s Diploma in Music Performance.

Throughout her studies for this diploma, Joseph-Prado performed the role of ‘Pamina’ in the Picoplat Music Development Foundation’s production of The Magic Flute in 2017 and ‘Yum Yum’ from The Mikado in the same foundation’s The Impresario and Broadway Revue in 2016; ‘Rosalia’ from West Side Story and ‘Frasquita’ from Carmen in UTT’s 2015 production of Neighbour, Neighbour! Tales West of Penzance and understudied the role of ‘Cosette’ in the BP Marionettes Chorale’s production of Les Miserables in 2014. She continued to participate in the Biennial Music Festival of Trinidad and Tobago and in 2016 was awarded the Norah Grant Challenge Trophy, Lieder; the Marie Julia Duprés Memorial Award, Ladies’ Oratorio and the Spirit of the Music Festival Award.

Recently, Joseph-Prado graduated with a BMus. Performance and was a student of Dr. Michelle Eiler, who helped her prepare for the Metropolitan National Council Auditions in 2018 and 2020. Last fall she performed the role of ‘Dido’ in Dido and Aeneas and was the featured soprano soloist for Schubert’s Mass in G. She spent the past year teaching music at the elementary level to 120 students ranging in ages from 3 to 11 to complement her learning from her bachelors. She is pursuing her Masters of Music, concentrating in opera, with the belief that the stringent requirements of that genre will well prepare her for any role in the industry.
