Bio

American mezzo-soprano Cierra Byrd is a graduate of The Lindemann Young Artist Development Program at the Metropolitan Opera.

Ms.Byrd is committed to bringing new perspectives to familiar tales through accurate, realistic storytelling.

Her current mission is to create a musical environment of encouragement, integrity, and open communication within her community.

Operatic appearances include Soeur Mathilde in Dialogues des Carmélites, Bertha in Fire Shut Up in My Bones, and Woman of Crete in Idomeneo at The Metropolitan Opera; Aisha in The Knock with Central City Opera.

On the concert stage, she has been a featured soloist in Mahler’s Symphony No. 3 with the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra under the baton of Marin Alsop; A Knee on the Neck with New York Choral Society at David Geffen Hall;

Notable accolades include the Legacy Award from the National Opera Association, George London Competition Finalist, Gerda Lissner Grant Award Winner, Winner of the Inaugural Duncan Williams Voice Competition, and the Peabody Artist Excellence Award.

She holds degrees from The Ohio State University and Peabody Conservatory at Johns Hopkins University, where she studied with legendary mezzo-soprano Denyce Graves.
